Living on top of Waterval Boven

I pick Chris up at the airport in Johannesburg tomorrow, Thursday morning, December 7th 2006. Our base camp for our South Africa trip is a climbing area in Mpumalanga known to climbers as The Restaurant at the End of the Universe.

I've arranged a quiet little chalet above it all in the veld on top of the crags about 5km from the town of Waterval Boven. The roofs of the chalets are the little shiney things on the right of the photo. The crags are the obvious vertical things on the left and the area boasts over 500 sport routes.

Along with the conveniences of electricity, a reasonable kitchen and great hot showers, it also comes with a pool.

My room is pretty deluxe complete with double bed and computer with internet connection. In fact, I'm sitting there right now writing this.

Chris' room, not so much: can you see the little cardboard box just outside the door? I'm sure he'll understand when I explain to him that he got here 2nd when he arrives here tomorrow.
